Why Moms Don’t Go Out Much

The older I get, the harder it is to drag myself out of the house. I know I’m not alone in this. 🙂 This is mostly because once kids entered the picture, leaving the house became such a project. Even if I’m going out alone! You would think that would be easy but there’s so much prep work involved. More often than not, I just don’t.  I mean, I think about going out, but I don’t. 😉  Collapsing into the recliner seems like much less work at the end of the day. (That’s because it is literally much less work.)

But, last weekend, I was the hostess of a bachelorette party so, yeah, I had to be there. I mean, I really had to be there. (As I kept telling myself as I emotionally prepared myself.) It’s not that I didn’t want to go, of course, it’s just so much work and I’m not a fan of so much work. 😉  I’m a fan of collapsing into my recliner at the end of the day. But, not last Friday night, baby!

To get myself out of the house, the prep work started early. Because at any point, I could run out of time and have to deal with mom and wife stuff.

I planned my outfit the night before because I knew it would be my biggest source of stress. I tore my room apart, looking for a shirt that I didn’t hate. I put the outfit in the wash first thing in the morning and got ready to head to the store. I was in a rush because I needed to have time to dye my hair or more importantly, get rid of the grey hairs. I couldn’t go out and pretend to be young with grey hairs!

I let Lizzie pick out the color or rather, agreed when she picked it out and announced that I should use that one. She was thrilled when I said ok. So, mom win. 🙂

I grabbed my husband and kids an assortment of yummy (sort of) frozen and canned foods to get them through the night and lunch tomorrow. I even got dinner for tomorrow because I wasn;t sure how I would be feeling…. 😉  (That turned out to be a really good idea.  The next day was not pretty, haha)

So many microwaveable options!

I came home, dyed hair, fed the kids lunch, and got my outfit all ready. I put my make-up on so that I would only have to change. I also discovered that the dog either ate or hid my lipstick so another stop at the store was in my future.

So, by 3:30, I was basically ready to go and impatient for time to pass so I could heat up some tv dinners, feed some doggies/kitties, and get out of here. You know, before I fell asleep. 😉

And I made it! I fulfilled my obligations, made my friend happy, and also had a ton of fun. 🙂

Now I need a nap. 😉
