One night, last week, when I should have been sleeping, I got sucked into a Ryze ad on Facebook. Of course, the algorithm picked up on it and now I have Ryze ads clogging my Facebook feed. But it did its job, I was intrigued with the whole mushroom coffee idea. I went back and read my good friend, Candy Keane’s, reviews (Fresh Cap or Ryze?) and ultimately decided to order Fresh Cap.
I’m not a healthy eater, I never have been. I want to be! But that’s not going to happen so I have to figure out ways to trick myself. This coffee might be it. It’s filled with mushroom goodness and as my daughter, a much healthier eater, tells me; mushrooms are so good for you.
Since Fresh Cap apparently doesn’t have as distinct of an earthy, mushroomy taste as Ryze, I decided to order a trial pack from Amazon. (Here’s the link!) After my first cup, I definitely feel a difference. The focus that I have is pretty awesome. It was so awesome that I sat down and wrote 5 blog post drafts! I don’t know if it is a placebo effect or a one time deal but I am enjoying it. (I will update later if this has continued. )

How Do You Drink This Stuff?
I was hesitant to just add it to hot water, instant coffee style, as directed because I wasn’t confident that I would actually drink it. So I mixed it with my regular coffee. I was pleasantly surprised that I really didn’t taste mushrooms, I just tasted my coffee. I was a little worried that I was spiking myself with caffeine this way. The caffeine content in Fresh Cap is 50 mg which is about half of the caffeine in a typical cup of coffee. As a girl who always orders that extra espresso shot, I am ok with that.

So What Mushrooms Are In Fresh Cap?
Here’s the list with abbreviated potential health benefits.
Lion’s Mane – Heart health, brain health, and mental health
Reishi – Immune support, anti-inflammation, blood sugar, fatigue reduction
Cordyceps – energy, anti-inflammation, immune support, kidney health
Chaga – blood sugar support, cholesterol, anti-inflammation, cholesterol , immune support, overall well-being
Turkey Tail – immune support, gut health and can potentially help reduce side effects of cancer treatments (approved for this in Japan)
Maitake – cholesterol, blood sugar, immune function

A Week Later
I feel good. It has not changed the whole trajectory of my life (that would be a lot to ask from coffee anyway!) but I do feel good. When I drink it, I feel more focused and energetic. I can’t say if it has improved my cholesterol or fended off a future heart attack but I feel confident that it has not made anything worse! At the end of the day (or in my case, the beginning of the day), I’m putting healthier stuff into my body and that makes me feel good and hopeful for my current and future health.
I will be ordering more.
