So, I got the opportunity to learn more about divatress. It’s an online beauty supply company aimed towards African American women. The website has a seemingly endless supply of hair care products, wigs, and freetress crochet hair.
I’ve learned many things about hair from the experience of having a daughter of color and also through my experience of being a nerd who likes to dress up in costumes. As I accumulated my mini collection of wigs, I learned how important quality is.
Quality and a wig cap! (Seriously, you have to have a wig cap. Otherwise, your time will be spent adjusting your wig instead of enjoying it.)
Through Lizzie, and many wonderful women of the black community, I have learned about the different options for her hair. There’s braids, weaves, crochet braids, twists, wigs, locs, etc, etc. I can say these things but that doesn’t mean that I understand them. But, periodically, women will offer to do Lizzie’s hair and I will watch them with amazement as they transform her whole look. And Lizzie, my low maintenance girl, likes to pretend that she doesn’t care about hair but even she can’t resist flipping her hair around when she has braids in like these.
Anyway, I started to explore the website so I could knowledgeably talk about it. That’s when I realized that it was actually really cool. I realized that I had been missing out on this online shopping option for her. All this time, I had been going to beauty supply stores and standing around looking confused until someone helped me. And since it was so overwhelming for me, I would usually grab whatever I was told to get and go. But, suddenly, I could take a breath and look at my options. And, turns out that there are way more of those options than I realized. With detailed descriptions, lots of different colors to choose from, and reviews by other customers; it was way less overwhelming for me than going into a store. There are many great choices for crochet hair and all kinds of other cool hair products like shampoos, conditioners, and daily moisturizers. Before I knew it, I had added several items to my cart like a Jamaican Girl Half Wig and Ample Curl Crochet Braids.
I can’t wait to see what Lizzie thinks. 🙂
So, if you are a woman of color or love someone who is, like I do, you’ll want to check them out!
