Tips For A Successful Cosplay

So you want to cosplay? Well, cosplay is for everyone! No matter your body-type, your gender identity, or race; you have the right to join in the fun. However, that also means that everyone has to struggle with the challenges of cosplaying.

So, here are some things to remember when cosplaying!

Wear Comfortable Shoes

Wear comfortable shoes. Wear comfortable shoes. Seriously, wear comfortable shoes. I can’t count the number of times that I haven’t taken this advice. But it’s so important. I have spent way too long at various cons, just sitting down because my feet hurt. The shoes often make the outfit so it is tricky. But, honestly, if you take the time to look for comfier shoes or make sure to break them in first, it will be so worth it.

Try The Costume Out Before The Con

I have a really bad habit of not doing this. But, it is very helpful to spend time in your costume before the con. It’s the only way to know how well it will hold up as you go through your day.

Bring along some supplies like safety pins, super glue and bobby pins.

Even if you try on your costume before, you are still likely to have some kind of wardrobe malfunction. So it’s a good idea to have some supplies to make some quick repairs. Or keep an eye out for one of these guys!

Consider the temperature

Even if you put together an amazing cosplay, it might not be worth it if you are super uncomfortable. In the heat of the summer, you might not want to wear it. You will be hot and sweaty and you might even get a little stinky. In an extreme case, you could put yourself at risk of heat exhaustion. But, then again, if you subscribe to fashion before comfort, then you might want to wear the costume anyway.

Expect To Have Your Picture Taken

People like to take pictures. If you get your cosplay “right,” people will stop you for pictures. If you participate in a group cosplay, there’s a bigger chance that you will spending some time posing. I recall a time when our kids were little, we missed the panel that we were heading to because we were trapped in a crowd of people taking our picture. Now that was a little extreme and it was 100% because of the kids, not us. 😁 But, the point is, if you may end up posing, I suggest you allow extra time to get wherever you are going.

Family cosplaying as DC Batman villains

Cosplaying is so much fun! But, it’s not simple. But, with some pre-planning, it can go as smoothly as anything in life goes! 😁
