Man, I was doing so well with my new healthy living lifestyle but now I’m in bed, eating a Hershey bar. This is basically exactly what I promised myself I wouldn’t do. But, as we all know, it is hard. So hard to stay the course. Especially when life works against you (and when chocolate is so good…) In this case, my progress was stalled by an injury.
I HURT MYSELF
I knew I would have to really focus to keep myself on track because I also knew that I was going to allow myself to eat all the foods while on vacation. But what really did me in was the great laptop fiasco.
You see, the day that we were leaving for Megacon, actually the minute that we were leaving, even; I hurt my toe. I dropped my laptop on my foot as I was walking to the car and, boy, was I in agony. I somehow managed to finish loading myself and my stuff in the car and we were off because I was going on this trip, no matter what. But I honestly wasn’t positive that my foot wasn’t broken.

As amazing as the weekend was, I also spent the weekend with a lot of foot pain. And then I came home with a lot of foot pain. While, I had double socked it to get through the weekend, when I got home, I discovered that I couldn’t wear closed shoes, only sandals.
And it just kept getting worse…

IT’S A SLIPPERY SLOPE
Obviously, you can’t go to the gym in sandals. And as I waited for my foot to heal, I made fewer and fewer healthy choices until I found myself here with a Cherry Coke next to me and a piece of Hershey bar in my mouth. I can feel the weight creeping back on me and more importantly, I can feel the lack of energy.
About a week ago, I realized that I could wear running shoes again and therefore, had lost my excuse to skip the gym. And yet, I haven’t gone. I just haven’t been able to motivate myself. But, I really want to.
I have to get back to what I was doing, I felt so much better. I really did. Now I will be basically starting over. I’m really not looking forward to that.
But here I am, putting this out there to help motivate myself and, hey, maybe some others. It’s never too late to start again, right?
All starting again takes is well … starting. I’ve been a power walker for the past four years. I’ve had a few setbacks and each time, have found that it takes only one committed day to get back in the groove, Emily. You can do this!

Thanks!! That makes sense, I just need to make that commitment again!

I hate to be a nay-sayer, but diets don’t work. On average people end up weighing MORE a year after the diet. And the people who do “keep the weight off”….are only 3 pounds less than their original weight.
I’d focus more on exercise and being healthy. Our bodies CRAVE whatever we tell them we can’t have — like chocolate. So our little cave-man brains are working overtime to make it hard to lose weight. But exercising is great, and some times your body starts wanting more of the healthy foods.. and you get healthier and stronger even if your body doesn’t fit the American ideal of all women being underweight. (Did you know it is actually HEALTHIER to be a little bit over your ideal weight than to be under it?)

I agree! I lost 15 pounds before my trip but I definitely wasn’t starving myself. That’s just not sustainable or healthy. But I was eating healthier and like you said, when your body is used to that, it actually wants the healthy foods. 😊 I’m happy to hear that it’s good to be a bit above the ideal weight cause I don’t think there is any danger of me going under it. Haha. Thanks for the comment! ❤️

It is hard to get started again, but you can do it. Think about how good you felt. Go Emily!

A change can get you excited about exercise again! If you work out after work, why don’t you switch to going before work? If you do running outside, you can switch to the gym. And it is true about diets not working. It is way more important to watch what you eat for balance. Your doctor can give you a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel to see where your numbers are.

That’s a good idea! I definitely need to get out and do something! I agree, diets don’t work. I’m trying to focus on just eating healthy. 😊

OOOOOO. That toe looks painful! So sorry. Have another chocolate bar. It’s such a happy drug.
